Somali security forces apprehend Aljazeera journalist
MOGADISHU (HOL) – The Somali security forces arrested Aljazeera journalist, Hamza Mohamed together with three other journalists who were on assignment with him.
The reason for their arrest remains unclear. However, unconfirmed reports say the journalists were arrested following their recent reportage from areas under the control of Al-Shabaab.
Elsewhere, the editor of Xog-ogaal newspaper, Abdi Adan Guuleed who was arrested on Saturday by Somali security forces was last night released.
Mr. Abdi was released from police custody without appearing before a court of law. Credible sources also say Xog-ogaal newspaper offices which were closed by the security forces are expected to reopen and resume work.
Somalia is considered as one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists.
